Shepton Mallet Prison

England has closed it oldest prison.  Shepton Mallet Prison was built in 1610.  It has housed thousands of men, women and children; some who never walked to freedom through its old wooden gates.  It was just one of several prisons being closed in a effort to balance budgets.  There are plans for a new "super prison" to be built to replace these smaller and ancient prisons, but its location has not been announced.
