I bumped a compact fluorescent bulb while moving a ladder recently. It broke loose from its base. I carefully removed the one remaining wire still attached to the base. Inserting the wires into an outlet proved the light was still functional, but alas with no base it is useless.
It is a fairly complex slice of technology. It resembles a small community. I find it surprising how inexpensive they are when you see the components that make it up and ponder the processes that must be involved in its production.
